New Year’s Resolutions to Reduce Your Stress

OUR HOT TUB BLOG

new years resolutions - reduce stress

You deserve to live a happy and stress-free lifestyle. As you are setting your resolutions and goals for 2023, you may want to consider one or two that can have a positive impact on your emotional health.

In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at some New Year’s resolutions that can help reduce your stress and how.

1. Make Time for Yourself

Often, many of us spend our free time committed to tasks and responsibilities that benefit others. If you can agree, why not make more time for yourself in 2020? Before saying yes to commitments or taking on new responsibilities, make time for yourself first.

Start by setting time aside for yourself once a week. Whether you have a soothing spa night complete with face masks and nail manicuring, or an intense workout at the gym followed by smoothies with a friend, you’re sure to feel less overwhelmed or burnt out the next time you say yes to another commitment.

If after setting time aside for yourself you find that there isn’t much wiggle room to help your friend move or watch the neighbor’s children on date night, simply say no. Your mental health is important, while saying no can feel tough at the moment, you will likely find that it is very rewarding in the long run.

2. Sleep More

The lack of sleep and feelings of stress can become a vicious circle very quickly if not handled appropriately. The more stressed you feel, the harder it can be to sleep. The worse your sleep patterns, the worse your stress. To help reduce your stress, make sleep a top priority.

Many find that putting a strict sleep schedule in place can help to set you up for success. To improve your sleep patterns, try the following:

  • Fresh sheets
  • Essential oil diffuser
  • Loose, comfortable pajamas
  • White noise machine
  • Reading
  • Turning on a fan
  • Soaking in the hot tub
  • Bathing

The scent of lavender is known to be very soothing. When using pillow sprays, laundry detergent, essential oils, body lotion, and bath or spa bombs, consider a lavender scent to help you fall and stay asleep.

3. Pick Up a Hobby

Between work, taking care of the kids, and cleaning the house, it’s hard to imagine having time for anything else. When you focus all of your time on the needs of others and your responsibilities, it’s easy to feel burnt out and allow the effects of stress to control your life.

Consider things that you have always wanted to do, but maybe haven’t had the time to commit, and use it toward living a stress-free lifestyle.

First, choose your hobby or activity. Next, schedule time for it at least once a week if not more. Your hobby could include one of the following:

  • Hiking and exploring
  • Photography
  • Swimming
  • Painting or other art forms
  • Dancing
  • Joining a gym
  • Volunteering at a local shelter
  • Horseback riding

Notice how many of these hobbies include you getting out of the house, staying active, or simply having fun? That’s what a hobby is all about! The more time spent enjoying yourself, the less time you will have to develop the effects of stress.

4. Soak in the Hot Tub

There is nothing quite like the bliss of a relaxing hot tub soak. Your outdoor hot tub, whether from the Sundance® Spas or Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs, among many other top-quality brands available to you, can be a wonderful asset to have in the fight against stress.

The heat of the water can help to relax your muscles, as the powerful jets work to reduce tension and ease aches and pains. This physical effect combined with the time spent relaxing in the solitude of your backyard space can do wonders for your mental health.

5. Practice Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a therapeutic technique that is used for the many health benefits it can promote. Reduced stress is one of them, among others such as eased anxiety, improved sleep, and mental alertness.

Many find that aromatherapy can help to change our perception of stress while decreasing levels of cortisol.

If you are looking to include aromatherapy in your life to reduce stress, try scents such as lavender in solutions such as candles, essential oils, bath bombs, spa bombs, and body lotions.
