Two things I don't like

I think the control interface is terrible. It is not intuitive at all. I have to get out the manual every time I want to do something. The manual is also terrible. Very hard to figure out what buttons to push from the illustrations.

The other thing that I have a problem with is me having to add insulation for winter. They don’t give much direction for it either. How about a youtube video showing exactly how to do it. Personally, I would rather pay a little more and get something that is ready to go from the factory.

So my suggestion would be spend a little more on the interface, add more buttons, etc. and insulate for -20 F° at the factory. Yes, you will have to charge more but not that much.

I also dont’t like the jets coming on unpredictably when I am in the spa need a better way to control them than using the Hold option.

Fix the wires

Our spa was wired wrong at the factory and we had issues with the GFI cord failing and shutting down daily. We had the technicians out twice before it was finally repaired. A simple switch of the white and black wire inputs solved the problem. Our 110 spa is now working great and we are enjoying it several times a week.

Great two-person spa

The R5L is marketed as a two-four person spa, but it wouldn’t be comfortable with more that two people in it at a time. We’ve owned it for 9 months now and never had a problem! Compared to our neighbors spa (similar size and same temp setting) our Bullfrog uses much less electricity. Our only complaint is that the spa control menu can be a bit confusing to get the filter times setup correctly, but Bullfrog posts videos to help using the menu. Since it was a bit expensive than most spas on the market today, we look forward to many years of trouble-free use!

Great Sales & Service Does Still Exist!

We just replaced our hot tub of 27 years (always inside). We looked at the brand we had originally bought (Hot Springs) but were disappointed in so many aspects including the $500 delivery charge. We then looked at Bullfrog and were so impressed that we purchased that brand instead. After comparing the 2 brands we felt Bullfrog was the better tub all around. Salesman Mark was very professional and the delivery and set up were amazing. They even included an addressed, stamped envelope to send in for our rebate. We will now fill our new tub and enjoy it, using our 2 new complimentary monogrammed towels that match our tub color. We have no reason not to expect many years of enjoyment from our Bullfrog spa. Loving our Spa

Loving our spa. Working great, the heavy massage back/neck jetpak is perfect. I still struggle with regulating it from running a lot during down time but I’m assuming that is my fault since I haven’t taken adequate time to read up on it and understand it. Very easy to care for and cleans up great – proper chemicals have kept it looking and operating great.

Pleased with the purchase

We use the spa almost every day both to relax and to sooth aches and pains. Our dealer was extremely helpful in picking out the right model. Thus far it has been flawless and we have used it in SC summer 95 degrees and this past winter when it was in the teens and yes it is outside. No buyer regret.

R5L Hot Tub

I needed a smaller tub. This one was the right size With help from Dolphin Spa of Salt Lake and Orem Bullfrog store, start up and maintenance has been easy. Davin from the Orem store was helpful and good to work with.

Swedish massage by water!

I did a lot of reserch and this hot tub was by far the best quality. The feel of the jet packs, & having the option to customize the jet packs with the ones I wanted, is wihat sold me! The Hot tub fits me and my 3 yr old nicely. I would buy it again if I was to do it over, ( just add the speaker system)

Bullfrog R5L component failures

I have had the hot tub for 27 months now. While I am very happy with the features and design of the tub, I have had a couple of early component failures that have cost me about 8 weeks of lost hot tub time and about $260 in service call out charges (the parts themselves were covered under warranty). Just after 12 months of use the top side controller failed. Apparently it was an older one and had water ingress issues which caused it stop functioning. 5+ week wait for the parts from Bullfrog before the local dealer (Mermaid Pools) could come and replace it. Then about 6 months later a NO COMMS message on the controller and again an non-functioning hot tub. This time after some confusion on the part of the repair technician it required a complete spa pack replacement. Another 2 weeks down and another $130 call out charge. Hope the next 3 years of warranty time are less eventful (and expensive).
So, in the first 2 years a topside controller failure and spa pack failure. Other than that, when it is working, we love it.

We are enjoying our bullfrog

We are enjoying our Bullfrog Spa immensely. We take advantage of it every day.
We only have a couple of issues: The pump motor’s starter solenoid went out on our R5L. It kept tripping the Ground Fault Interrupter. That was kind of disconcerting when we were trying to use the spa.
We had one hold down clip on the jet pack cover broke. (part # B6631-1100) and 2 broken clips on the spa cover that hold down the cover in windy weather.
Other then that, it has been a good investment.

I did my research

I have owned hot tubs for most of my adult life. I use it almost everyday and as you can guess, I don’t like a broken spa. The spa I owned previously lasted 15 years. I had numerous service calls during those 15 years and I dreaded calling for repairs. My spa is flush with my deck and each repair required me to drain the spa and move it to give access to the repairman. I had pumps in the front, pumps in the back and jets and pipes running in every direction. So, when researching my next spa I looked for the best engineered product I could find. I felt there had to be a better way. Well, bullfrog certainly addressed all my issues. The jets on my R5L are all in easily replaceable/repairable jet packs which reside inside the spa. The plumbing for each jet is located in the pack, not outside the shell. Each jet pack is attached with only one or two hoses, not one for each jet. The important pumps and electronic “stuff” are all in one spot – the front of the spa. If there is a problem, 4 screws and one panel – and easy access to what needs attention. I have had it for almost two years and did have one problem. A jet pack sprung a leak – the fix – I called Islandia Pools, my dealer and a new one was sent to me for a no charge replacement. No service call, no repair bills – NO DAYS WITHOUT MY SPA. Nicole, my representative at Islandia was professional, attentive and was the very definition of customer service. I would recommend bullfrog to any friend who wanted to get a spa – and I have!

Works great, how can I get it hotter than 104 or 105?

104 degree limit is mandated by law

Bill H….the hi-limit switch on your heater is calibrated to shut off at 104 degrees F. This is mandated by law as temperatures higher that 104 can be hazardous to bathers. The hi-limit switch is also used to prevent a runaway heat situation. 104 is plenty warm….my advice is to just leave it alone and enjoy.

I love this little spa!

I have had my Bullfrog Spa for a little over a year. I have had no problems with it. It is always ready wjhen ever my wife and I want to hop in. Its energy consumption has been pretty low, as advertised. We are glad we have it!

Great Spa

A great spa!

I have used hot tubs for years. They are, in my view, the best source of shedding daily stress and giving a person the means for immediate relaxation without any additional substances. This particular one, has been really efficient and trouble free. I would recommend this device to anyone interested in quality hot tubs. Easy maintenance and a treasure. If I ever need another hot tub, this is the one I will be purchasing again.

Bullfrog review

We love the spa. I think it is rather difficult to use the control panel and the 104 temp since less warm then that. Otherwise, we are happy with the spa.

Perfect for one/two people

This spa is low-maintenance and stands up well to Florida heat, humidity, mold… I empty it for 3 months in the summer. It needs a scrubbing, but always starts up beautifully in the fall.
