Ways to Boost Your Immune System Naturally

OUR HOT TUB BLOG

With cold and flu season just around the corner, now is the time to think about some natural ways to fortify your immune system. Making some simple changes to your lifestyle can make a world of difference to your overall health as well as your immunity. Let’s take a look at the best ways to boost your immune system this fall.

1. Hit the Hot Tub

Daily dips in your hot tub are an easy and relaxing way to strengthen your body’s immune system.

The heated water and jet massage provided by your spa quickens your circulation and boosts your white blood cell production. That means your blood carries these germ-fighting cells more quickly throughout the body to help you fight off infection and disease.

The heated water of your spa can also help you to sweat out toxins. As the heat warms you, blood and lymph fluid circulate more quickly through your body. Toxins are brought to the surface as you begin to sweat and they are then washed away by the water.

2. Choose the Right Foods

Eating well is good for your overall health and helps to keep you strong but, there are some foods that can really take your immunity to the next level. Health experts recommend incorporating 15 superfoods into your diet on a regular basis.

Topping the list for the huge amounts of vitamin C they offer are red bell peppers. With three times as much vitamin C as the average orange, red peppers are also a good source of beta carotene. Broccoli and spinach are two more powerhouse vegetables. They are chock full of vitamins A, C, and E as well as antioxidants and fiber.

When you want a hot drink, green tea is the way to go. Full of polyphenol, a potent plant antioxidant, this type of tea is known for its ability to ward off the flu. Other powerhouse foods are citrus fruits, garlic, ginger, yogurt, almonds, sunflower seeds, turmeric, papaya, kiwi, poultry, and shellfish.

3. Get Enough Sleep

When you’re tired and rundown, it’s hard for your body to fend off viruses. Adults require an average of seven to eight hours of sleep a night to stay healthy.

If you don’t get enough sleep, your body makes fewer cytokines, a protein that protects you from infection and inflammation. Cytokines are only produced and released during sleep, so be sure to get enough rest each night.

4. Avoid Stress

Lack of sleep isn’t the only thing that can leave you feeling rundown and tired. Stress can also do a number on your immune system. No matter what your source of stress is, it’s important to find ways to rid yourself of its effects. Exercise can be a huge stress reliever as can finding hobbies to take part in and enjoy. Taking time out for self-care is also important. Whether you treat yourself to a massage once a month or invest in a membership so you can play golf regularly, taking the time to look after yourself physically and mentally is vital to your overall well-being.
